Lone workers

All employers have a duty of care to protect employees under the Health & Safety Act 1974 and the Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007.

Any of your employees who work alone are at their most vulnerable and our lone worker service helps employers to manage this area of risk.

How does it work?

There are two ways to protect your lone workers:

Option 1 - mobile phone

Lone workers contact the automated lone worker telephone line within our control centre and log onto the system with their unique PIN number.

The user sets the estimated interval of their visit or meeting and records a message with their location.

The lone worker system will automatically call the lone worker’s mobile at the time specified to ensure all is well.  When the lone worker answers the call, they will be logged off of the system.

If the call is not answered the lone worker system will begin an agreed escalation procedure.  This begins by redialling the lone worker’s mobile up to four times.  On the fourth attempt, the system raises an alarm call to the monitoring centre.

If the operator is unable to make contact with the lone worker they will retrieve the lone worker’s location from their voice message and take appropriate action, calling a designated contact, the emergency services, or as pre-agreed with the employer.

At any time whilst logged on the user can raise an emergency alarm alert by pressing the ‘5’ button on their keypad, automatically dialling the monitoring centre.

Option 2 – GPS (global positioning system)

With our GPS tracking service, our operators can find the lone worker’s location to within metres, adding extra protection for those working in high-risk areas.
