New Magna Careline role for Leslie

8/2/2010

Mayor of Dorchester Leslie Phillips has been elected honorary president of Magna Careline.

The new role was created to mark Mr Phillips’ commitment to the 24-hour emergency alarm service he started more than 21 years ago. He has been a huge supporter of Careline since it began and was its chairman before standing down at the annual general meeting this week.

Magna Careline is a telecare monitoring service used by thousands of people across Dorset and beyond, to Plymouth in the west, West Sussex to the east and Wolverhampton to the north. As well as helping people to retain their independence in their own homes, the service also handles calls for commercial customers to provide business continuity 24 hours a day and offer protection for lone workers.

Magna Careline director Raymond Ardrey said: “Fellow board members were unanimous in their desire to see Mr Phillips recognised for all his hard work. Leslie has a wealth of knowledge, having been involved with Magna Careline since its inception. But Leslie’s contribution goes far beyond that. He’s a fantastic ambassador for Magna Careline. He knows how reassuring it is for people to have the friendly voice of one of our operators on hand in time of need.

“Knowing Leslie, it’s no surprise he wanted to continue to support one of the services to local people that has been closest to his heart for so many years. By accepting the role of honorary president he will be able to continue to represent Magna Careline, and maintain, at high profile, the benefits which Careline’s services can bring to local communities.”

Mr Phillips was elected president for the coming year after Magna Careline’s AGM at its base in Dorchester. A new chairman will be appointed soon.
